FHC competes at the Maury River Hunter Trials April 3

Saturday, April 3rd, Farmington went to Lexington for a fun and successful day of competition over an old fashioned Hunter Trial course at the Virginia Horse Center. Penny and Brian Ross expertly managed the Inaugural Maury River trials hosted by three combined Hunt Clubs: Middlebrook, Glenmore and Rockbridge. Over 80 riders were on hand, with a strong contingent of foxhunters from Liz King's Millington Stables. MFH Joy Crompton and MacDonald placed second in the Hunter on the flat, and won the Handy Hunter 3' division. Liz King was 6th in the hunters on the flat,and shared a first in the pairs class with Dale Dealtrey. Dale had a fine day starting with a third in the Handy Hunter,a first in the Field Master's Chase, winning the second flight championship overall and the Blue Ridge Equine reserve championship for riders over 50. Debbie Heymann's Handsome Lad had the right stuff to win the Handy Hunter 2'6" division with Stephanie Guerlain riding. Kim Morton and Rosie galloped around handily to pick up ribbons in the Field Hunter Over fences, Handy Hunter 3',and rode home with Mary Kalergis and Rocky with a second in the pairs class. Junior members Taylor Fellows and Brodie Lower were second in class 7b pairs, and Brodie took home first on Mason Fogg's Syrah in the Field hunter 2'6". Mark Thompson and Gaelic performed in typically fine form winning the Cross Country class after a third they won earlier in the day in Field Hunter over fences. it was a great team effort-Farmington won reserve Championship for the Melvin Poe Cup for most points scored overall.
