Off we go. Kenny leading our first flight, Megan and Debbie Wright, Jane Fogelman, Ann Via, Mark and Shelly Thompson, Brodie, Meg Jones, Taylor Fellows. Second flight that I took in the car Michael Vitale, Mason Fogg, and others came and went.( see galleries/foothunting: January2010)
Megan and Deb, Kenny, Taylor, Meg, Brodie
So the hounds struck off to the left in the bottom ran to the right all the way up to Tommy's horses on the sharp turn before Dale's. Then the road whips turned Reynard and he ran back across the light brown field in upper right corner of picture. And I am not sure where Reynard went from there. Then they gathered the hounds and brought them past Sue Coughlan's coop and up the stream there to the cattle guard.
Tommy and friend watching from hill above the cattle guard.
here they are at the cattle guard, I am looking towards the flat house.
Then he started out up over hill to the cover that leads to the Silo.
This picture: coop right to my right and looking towards Silo Kenny, Brodie, Taylor Megan, the Thompson's, the Wrights and Ann.The hounds have just gone over hill in the middle of the picture. Alison is following along fence line way ahead of Kenny and she saw a Brace of fox in field with Silo, and yelled and(gives me the chills just thinking about it.) one fox which was the hunted one went I don't know(maybe someone else can tell us that Kenny?) but the second fox went to the right across creek by the coop out at the road and up the hay field towards the flat house driveway.
I saw him come to the round bale and stop.(its between the 2 right hand cedars. I think he was waiting for everyone to catch up). Then he took off towards the telephone pole and then turned up towards the road on the right. Which you can't see him but he is there in the middle of the picture. It was such fun and exciting.
Daron brought the hounds up to the rd but the sent had already blown away. So we had a check (the hounds were fine but the people needed it and Kenny had his flask just like the Field Master would) mmmmmmmm mmmm good.
Then we went down the hill to the creek and I am not sure but somewhere they got on ANOTHER Fox. That took them back to the cover we usually start in(Left of field across from the Kennels) and Reynard tried to cross the road but Tommy turned him and they put him to ground somewhere in that cover and over by the winery. PHEW! ! ! I say that for the 1st flight, Daron, Alison, Carolyn. (Not me I was driving place to place)
Then on their way home.
The road whips are an essential part of Foot hunting. BJ, Tom Bishop, Carol Easter, Brian Barquin. They kept the hounds from crossing the roads and being long gone.
Come join us next week when we go again. I will take the 3rdFlight in The Van
